The Alliance for Child Mental Health is a non-profit Washington State membership organization of licensed professionals who specialize in providing mental health services to children.
Our mission is to improve the Iives of children and families by increasing awareness, collaboration and coordination across child mental health agencies and among providers.
FOR PARENTS, FAMILIES AND CHILDREN:
The Alliance was started by a group of parents and therapists who personally experienced deep frustration trying to find the right help for children. We came together at the same time that the Washington State legislature created a task force to study ways to improve children’s health and welfare. The result of their work is new legislation acknowledging the need for better access to mental health services for children. While this is a huge step forward, the legislation does not mention how such providers will be found. Currently, the state only lists licensed mental health practitioners by license status, NOT by specialty (e.g. children with autism, ADHD or any other mental health challenge). The first effort of the Alliance is the creation of this website. It provides parents with improved ability to find such providers by specialty and location at one centralized site, a distinct advantage to randomly searching the web.
1 in 5 children need your help, but they cannot find you.
Recent statistics as reported by parents show that more than 5% of all children suffer from serious emotional/behavioral difficulties and another 15% suffer from minor difficulties. In total 1 in 5 children need help and only 30% of those receive it. Half of all mental illnesses begins by the age of 14; 75% has begun by the age of 24.
The benefits of membership in the Alliance for Child Mental Health for licensed providers include
